Majesty Ukuleles Luthiers
When I was a boy, if I wasn’t playing baseball or hanging out with my friends I was usually in my uncle’s guitar shop. I used to pick up leftover tonewood pieces from garbage bins and make something out of them. My uncle owns a world-renowned guitar building company in Gifu, Japan. My father was the chief guitar builder there until 2002. He built exclusive custom-made guitars for musicians around the world for forty-two years. He often worked on weekends, so I used to accompany him to his workshop. I still remember looking up at all the acoustic guitars - which were taller than myself - and also trying my hand at Japanese saws and hammers.
Nanaimo Alohafest Events
Nanaimo Alohafest has been described as “...the most Hawaiian ukulele festival in Canada”. A warm aloha welcome awaits you as you enjoy events that take place beside beautiful beaches, in lovely park-like settings, and a wonderful kani-ka-pila at Nanaimo’s Millstone Winery. FEATURED ARE: The majestic ukulele stylings of Kimo Hussey, Strumming Sage Ralph Shaw, and the delightful voice, uke, and U-Bass stylings of the Jazzalele Duo.
Ralph Shaw Musicians
Ralph Shaw divides his time between recording music CDs, making DVDs (on how to play the ukulele), songwriting and live performance and is well known as Vancouver’s King of the Ukulele! His earliest employment in show business was as a children’s entertainer known as Ralph the Clown (motto = Making the World Laugh – music included no batteries required) Ralph the Clown. In 1990 he discovered the ukulele and along with it a love of some of the great songs of the 20s, 30s and 40s. His grandfather owned a 1920’s ukulele and this was probably Ralph’s earliest inspiration to play the instrument which the Hawaiians call the Jumping Flea.

Just browsing over both books, they look fantastic! I'm a guitarist and uke player for over 25 years and was thinking about writing a ukulele book but you've already written what I think are the best, most comprehensive and thorough books I've ever seen for the instrument. I just might end up buying every book you've written and I'll be giving my highest recommendation for your books to my friends and students. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such great books! — Peter Rhee
Aloha, Curt, All I can say is WOW! What you have accomplished is simply incredible! All the best — Glen Hirabayashi, The Aloha Boys
