Hello, I’m Phil Davidson, I have been handcrafting fine instruments for over twenty five years, beginning with banjos and diversifying to mandolins and guitars. Difficulties in sourcing quality hardware has led me to produce my own design mandolin and guitar tailpieces, and scalloped and top-tension banjo hoops, made and nickel plated in house. Learning the trade repairing and restoring damaged and well-worn instruments, I discovered very early on that “Quality is never an accident” (John Ruskin). My dedication is to produce instruments of superior quality while maintaining realistic price levels.

Phil is one of the most recognizable players on the UK ukulele scene, and has been at the forefront of the ukulele revival for the last 10 years (possibly longer, see the photo on the right!) A ‘player’s player’, he is in demand for festivals (both as a performer and as a workshop leader), theater and club gigs, and private events in the UK and Europe. Moogly Moo (aka Mrs Nipper) has been painting for many years using a variety of media. She is also a keen ukulele player and singer. So it was with great excitement that she combined the two passions and began painting ukuleles. She has been painting ukuleles since the beginning of 2007. All the ukuleles are hand painted at Moogly Moo’s home studio in Somerset in the UK.

A prophetic photograph of me age 4 used to form the background, Bowman style, to my labels. Clutching my plastic Woolworth‘s ukulele, standing in the tartan kilt of my mother’s Scottish clan, in front of the wall my dad built, is a constant reminder that I really was born to do this job! My whole philosophy is one of care in the selection of materials and attention to detail. I learned these qualities from my toolmaker father whose exacting eye taught me to take notice of the small things. I remember when our neighbors painted their houses; it took a couple of days with a gallon can of Dulux. It always needed re-doing a couple of years later. Dad took a week applying 3 coats of Mangers lead based oil paint over 2 coats of red lead primer. He only did it once. It lasted years.

I got my first guitar when i was about 13.A cheap and extremely nasty plywood model with metal strings about 1/2 " off the fingerboard(got me started on slide mind!)First thing I did was shave down the floating bridge to save my soft little fingers -it was the start of a long journey. Years went by I learnt to pick a little and went through a succession of gradually better guitars until I visited a guitar shop in Denmark St London(tin pan alley) and tried a Martin an epiphany - had to get one .I saved for a second hand D-35 but I wanted more. Budget would not allow so I hit on the idea of building my own. Enrolled at an evening class. 4 years later there it was a steel string, solid as a wardrobe but it played.

STEVEN’S musical history began in the early 1970s when his father bought him a ukulele at age 10. A love of George Formby and a determination to play as well as him eventually had its impact and Steven was playing and singing in his native North East (Lanchester, Durham) in pubs and clubs.

The UK&rsquo;s most popular gig bags. tomandwill.com was born in the autumn of 2006 when we recognised that there was a need for a good quality gig bag at a cost that didn&rsquo;t break the bank.

Tricity Vogue took up the ukelele in 2007 in an attempt to recreate the Big Band sound single-handed after her musicians stood her up for a gig. She fell in love with the small pink instrument and has since become a wandering troubadour, appearing with her ukelele everywhere from Paris to Portlaoise, and from Edinburgh to Ealing.

The weekend will focus on workshops informal sessions and open mic concerts with a ceilidh and special guest spot on the Saturday evening. Tickets are £30 per person for the whole weekend. Camping is £7 per night per unit (tent, caravan or camper).

All levels of ability welcome, from uke-virgins to turbo-ukers with four-stringed go-faster-stripes! The atmosphere is relaxed, there is good real ale and real food on sale, the pub is child and dog-friendly (the children play ukes and the dogs howl in tune!), we certainly have fun and we welcome anyone who wants to either drop in or attend regularly.

It's hard to believe that 2015 will be the SIXTH Ukulele Festival of Great Britain: SIX years since the amazing Ukuhooley in Dublin inspired us to launch the biggest and best ukulele event this country had ever seen; SIX years of bringing the most talented, most awesome, most funny, most fabulous, most unbelievable ukulele acts in the world to the beautiful festival town of Cheltenham in the heart of the Cotswolds; SIX years of wonderful workshops, stunning stalls, jazzy jam sessions, great open mic performances, and the brilliant Big Busk; SIX years spreading the ukulele love to an ever-growing family of fantastic new friends.

Meetings held twice a year in April and October at Digswell Village Hall, Digswell, Hertfordshire.

Ukulele Jamming on Southampton&rsquo;s Waterside! An exciting new musical group for the Waterside was launched in January 2011 and is open to everyone whether they are a virtuoso or beginner.
