DeCava Archtop Guitars
Luthier James R. DeCava was born and raised in Stratford, Connecticut. As a young teenager, he began playing guitar and banjo and soon realized that if something needed repair on his instruments, he had to do it himself as there were few repair people around at that time. He began meeting others with similar interests and came into contact with the well known Liberty Banjo Co. He worked for them for many years making banjos, doing repairs, and cutting-inlaying mother of pearl with intricate designs. Over the years, he has built hundreds of guitars, banjos, mandolins, and one-of-a-kind instruments. He has also become well known for building multi-string instruments.
Flea Market Music
Finding a ukulele at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market in 1992 inspired Liz & Jim Beloff to start Flea Market Music, Inc., publisher of the popular Jumpin’ Jim’s series of ukulele songbooks. This series is sold worldwide and is distributed by the Hal Leonard Corporation. Some of the best selling titles in the series include Jumpin’ Jim’s Ukulele Tips ‘N’ Tunes, Jumpin’ Jim’s ‘60s Uke-In and Jumpin’ Jim’s Ukulele Country as well as collections of blues, bluegrass, classical music and jazz standards arranged for ukulele by some of the finest players in the world.
Jim Beloff
Songwriting has always been a passion for Jim Beloff. With a concentration in musical theater at Hampshire College, he wrote, primarily on guitar, a number of musical revues and a full length musical. During his junior year he was a production assistant for Leonard Bernstein on the musical, “1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” which Bernstein wrote with Alan Jay Lerner. Despite the fact that the show closed on Broadway after a short time, Jim found it to be a valuable learning experience.
