Listing Info

from the George Banjos web site

George Banjos is located in historic, scenic Somerville, Tennessee, just a few blocks away from the court square and town center. It is located just shy of midway between Memphis and Jackson.

There are no CNC routers at George Banjos. Everything is crafted by hand using rasp, file, lathe, bandsaw and sanders. Though we have tried to present different banjo "models" to give customers a starting point to order a George bnajo, we are really a custom shop and each banjo that we make is unique. Please take a moment to read about Tommy and Christian below, and then peruse the Gallery and In Progress pages to see stunning examples of the work that is created at George Banjos.

More information available on the George Banjos's web site.

A “small shop” instrument builder and currently building acoustic and electric mandolin family instruments, electric ukuleles and other random custom instruments. A while back a customer emailed me and wanted to talk to me about building an electric steel string Uke…this worked out quite well since the electric mandolins I build are very similar in size, scale to the Ukulele.

I was born in Oregon and raised in Waimea on the Big Isle. (Hawaii) Growing up my Grandfather was in many music groups, and also taught choir. He being 96 years of age still plays music and sings. Music is his life, music is my life.

I learned how to make the Ukulele from a lot of trial and error, Books, and instructions from my friends Noa Bonk and father John Kitakis, at Ko’olau Ukulele and Guitar Co. (I recommend their ukuleles to everyone)

Just browsing over both books, they look fantastic! I'm a guitarist and uke player for over 25 years and was thinking about writing a ukulele book but you've already written what I think are the best, most comprehensive and thorough books I've ever seen for the instrument. I just might end up buying every book you've written and I'll be giving my highest recommendation for your books to my friends and students. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such great books!Peter Rhee
