Blackbird Guitars was founded by Joe Luttwak and Kyle Wolfe and now includes fellow designer Troy Stevens. After years searching for a compact guitar worth bringing along for the ride, all they could find was thin sounding and fragile. Eventually they realized that none of the established companies would tackle this problem so they decided to do it themselves.

KLOS Guitars was born as an answer to the question of why are carbon fiber guitars so expensive. Hand crafted with extreme precision in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, our guitars blend the practical with the elegant. We keep the neck out of mahogany and blackwood so that your fingers have a familiar feel while making the body and soundboard out of durable carbon fiber. This hybrid wood and carbon fiber approach lets us keep the price well under $1000 for our acoustic model, while still producing a compact, durable, and great sounding travel guitar. The Outdoor Ukulele is injection molded from glass fiber filled polycarbonate. This high-performance composite plastic creates a very strong structure with exceptional tonal quality.

Outdoor Ukulele™ is a father and daughter manufacturer of composite polycarbonate instruments. Scott does the design, development, and assembly. Grace does the marketing, photography, and customer relations.

Recently, some overseas manufacturers began using the Outdoor Ukulele™ name on their plastic ukuleles. Some have even advertised using "Composite Polycarbonate" construction. These instruments are actually made from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), and they will not have the resonance or durability of the Outdoor Ukulele™.

Carbon Fiber Hybrid - Most carbon fiber ukuleles cost well over $1000. The Phoenix ukulele is more affordable with the same sound quality by making the body and soundboard out of carbon fiber, while the neck, fretboard, and bridge are made of specialty woods.
