The Pentatonic or Major Pentatonic Scale
The Pentatonic scale is also referred to as the Country or Nashville scale. Eric Clapton has been very successful in weaving the bright pentatonic sound with the dark blues sound creating an unmistakable sound.
The Pentatonic scale consists of the following intervals (based on a major scale). Root, 2, 3, 5, 6 and octave. A common chromatic passing tone can be played between the 2nd and 3rd of the scale.
The following chord progressions are in the key of A major. The A Pentatonic scale consisting of the notes A B (C) C# E F# A’ can be used to solo over each progression.
